About Protein Purification

Recombinant proteins are being used throughout the whole biomedical research spectrum. Once you dispose of a large quantity of purified proteins, you can conduct many downstream experiments, like enzyme kinetics or functional and structural studies.

The advantages of using the prokaryotic recombinant protein expression systems (E. coli), includes the ease of culture, rapid growth and relatively simple purification procedures. However, most post-translational modifications are not added by bacteria, and most proteins become insoluble in inclusion bodies, which makes them very difficult to recover as functional proteins.

Eukaryotic systems for the expression of protein include yeast, baculovirus cells, and mammalian cells. The advantages of these systems are represented by high levels of expression, no inclusion bodies, and intact post-translational modifications.

Upon receiving the sequence information, our scientists analyse the sequence to determine specific characteristics like molecular weight, pI, solubility, susceptibility to oxidation and hydrophobicity.
