Oligonucleotide synthesizers were first designed in the 80s and during the 90s new huge systems were made able to make 100s of oligonucleotides per day to fullfil the needs of facility cores and oligo houses. At the moment some laboratories need simple oligo synthesizers to carry on experiments with special modified oligos or new chemistries.
